Right now, my status is “bored.” I can’t stand or sit (even on special cushions) for more than about 15 minutes before I start feeling pain in my coccyx. When I get up or lie down, I feel pain in my lower back. The pain medication helps a bit, but I’m being cautious with it. Therefore, I spend most of my day lying down, watching TV.
I’m bored. I want to start moving around and go back to work. However, I know that if I push myself I’m just going to become more miserable. This will probably last another week. As always, I try to find the points of gratitude:
– After a fall like mine, I’m bored instead of paralyzed. I’m grateful that I have an injury from which I can hope for complete recovery.
– They’re being very understanding at my job about my being out of work for two weeks.
– I have enough “oomph” to get off the sofa every hour or so to move around. I don’t have to worry about bedsores.
– Thanks to Vann, I’ve got plenty of food in the house.
– In general sitting is painful, but I don’t have any problems going to the bathroom. That would a problem indeed!
– Strangely, I seem to be losing weight. I would have thought that being so sedentary would have packed on the pounds, but instead I seem to be eating less.
In summary, I’m OK. Boredom is a problem that can be too easily corrected, often in directions that I would not want to go. Hurray for boredom!
